My Film Noir-Inspired Prom Look

This past week has been absolutely hectic. Prom and graduation occurred one right after the other. With all of the pictures and after-parties, I was incredibly exhausted, and incredibly happy.

I am thrilled with the way my prom look turned out. Early on in the year when I was first looking at dresses, I swore to myself I would go for one of two looks: light blue dress, flower-child meets Disney Princess, or a red-lipped, film noir, retro movie star. The latter of the two as it was classy, sexy, timeless, and daring. I knew that going retro would mean standing out, for better or for worse, and that was an intriguing risk I was willing to take.

Veronica Lake, Paris Pin-Up circa 1951
Lauren Bacall, Screen Stars circa 1945

I took inspiration from Veronica Lake and Lauren Bacall's pin-up waves, cat-eyes, and full red lips.

Blake  Lively Vogue
Taylor Swift, Vanity Fair Oscar Party 2014

Blake Lively and Taylor Swift prove that the look is as glamorous in 2016 as it was 60 years ago.

The hair and makeup
Red lips make a statement. I'm wearing Estee Lauder's Pure Color Envy Matte Sculpting Lipstick in the color "Volatile".

The dress
I'm wearing La Femme style number 22206.

The shoes *heart eyes emoji*
My heels are Vince. I can't seem to find the exact style, but there are similar ones on the website.

The Angelina Leg
What's a leg slit without a good Angelina Leg??

Overall I had a wonderful time and am very happy with how my look turned out! Let me know what you think and tell me about your prom style!

GovBall 2016 Style and Music Diary

I learned some very important lessons at GovBall. For one, I learned that yes, it is possible to attend a music festival without wearing a flower crown; I am living proof of this. Two: do NOT buy off-brand flash tattoos. You'll be wearing the ugly remains at your awards ceremony three weeks later despite the daily heavy duty scrubbing sessions.  Three: raving in the pouring rain to HAIM's "Don't Save Me" is all fun and games until you're riding the subway back to Penn drenched and muddy with glitter ALL. OVER.

Four: It was totally worth it.

There's nothing like seeing Mac Miller, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Jon Bellion, The Knocks, Louis the Child, Marian Hill,The of course, HAIM, all in a 10 hour span. Three words: music, food, fashion.

I took inspiration from Gigi Hadid's 2015 Coachella look:

I ended up hitting up an amazing Memorial Day sale at Ruby and Jenna and came up with a similar look:

Me admiring @jgoldcrown's gorgeous creation #lovewall #loveballnyc16
I wore a fringed faux suede vest, a strappy lace bralette (Forever 21 has a similar one) that reminded me of a For Love and Lemons knockoff piece, high-rise black shorts from American Eagle, some cheap sunnies just for show, and of course, the classic Adidas Superstars. I would have gone for a cute bootie if I wasn't warned beforehand of all the MUD. I probably would have died dancing in a heel anyway.
The Steve Madden Prim Booties I would have worn...
Some delicious mac 'n cheese from Beecher's Handmade Cheese
Louis the Child

Overall GovBall was a success.

Summer Obsession: Jewel Blue

Summer is here and I couldn't be more excited. It's the perfect time to mix bold colors, layer jewelry, and wear your favorite pair of sunglasses at all hours of the day.
Sabrina's outfit caught my eye and I realized I had to do a post on it.

If you're lucky enough to have a tan, this electric blue jewel color will bring it out perfectly. Hell, even if you're as perpetually pale as I am, it should still bring out some pigment from your skin.
Here's a similar dress from Alice and Olivia for $298.00 in the same jewel blue color.

It's summer, so don't take yourself too seriously. Layer your favorite jewels without worry of mixing different shades of gold and silver.

Try Essie's "Butler Please" for a cool blue nail.

Add a belt on to flowy dresses for some waist-defining action. Or just add a belt on because belts are cool.

Last but not least, SHOES. In love with these gorgeous orange ankle lace-ups. Paired with the jewel blue, they make the whole outfit.

So, what is a Streetwalker?

Hey guys! My name's Liz and it's currently the summer going into my freshman year of college. I'll be studying photography at The Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC.

I want to keep record of my fashion, photography, and overall experience in this crazy and wonderful city. I'm going to create a blog because I've tried keeping a journal, and quite frankly, it's a pain to read my handwriting.

So, why Streetwalker? A Streetwalker is someone who is inspired by her/his surroundings (ideally on the street). Whether it be style, photography, or life, a Streetwalker lives and breathes the diverse culture of the city. A Streetwalker may not be front row at NYFW, but will wait outside for hours snapping street style shots of the fashion influencers coming and going. I consider myself a Streetwalker.

I can only imagine what amazing experiences are to come.

Yours truly,
Liz Donohue
